Genuine supervision is collegiate, supportive and appropriately challenging, the ultimate aim being to help you become more effective, skilful and confident. You already know your role, employment boundaries and your client group: supervision offers a confidential relationship in which you can explore how you interact with these and other realities, to extend your talents and abilities.
Supervision For Non-Counselling Professionals
If you are a social worker, nurse, midwife, health care assistant, doctor, psychologist, physiotherapist, paramedic, chaplain, priest or in any other role where you come into contact with people who are distressed, you will need supervision.
Sadly, genuine supervision is very rarely available usually being offered by a manager or informally by a friend or colleague. If you are unable to explore your own feelings and actions without fear of being judged, breaking client confidentiality or disclosing more than your colleagues can deal with then you are wasting your time.
Professional supervision offers you boundaried space in which to review client work, reflect on your own processes and safely examine your own feelings. The aim is to refresh your work and your competence.
My first professions were nursing and midwifery and I've supervised non-counselling professionals for some years. Our first meeting will be for half an hour and costs £35. If we agree to work together a tailored contract will be created to suit the professional boundaries of each individual.
Costs
One to one supervision - £80 for 1 hour.
£90 for 1 ½ hours.
Groups - no more than 3 people - £150 for 2 hours.
