WORKPLACE STRESS
50 years ago all Western governments began discussing how people would cope with the leisure that 'The white heat of technology' would bring. If only. Now, workplace stress, anxiety and panic attacks are the distress de jour, restorative leisure is a dream and everyone is convinced that they're failing. Employment is increasingly fragile and febrile; unemployment was never fun but now it's been made punishing, and the gig economy makes life perilous; social life is less enjoyable, less affordable and more competitive. People are not even finding the time to sleep properly.
To sleep, for goodness sake!
Employment is one of the most important parts of our lives, it's where we spend most of it. Fear of being out of work affects most of us: increasingly, bad managers use that fear to intimidate people. So huge is the problem that legislation has had to be enacted to address it.
You are not a machine. You might be expected to behave like one but on their deathbed no one ever said, "I wish I'd spent more time at work." Remember the most common regret of people experiencing palliative care? "I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me."
Come and find out what being true to yourself means for you, while still being able to pay your bills.
